Amazon is one of the first cloud providers to offer an Gateway. The gateway supports a few different options: HTTP, REST, and WebSockets. Integrations with other AWS services are abundant.
Apigee Edge
Apigee Edge is a first-generation, commercial gateway platform. It includes a fully-integrated API Provider experience along with API Consumer management via a [Portal](../../platform-capabilities/developer-portal/). While Apigee Edge comes with a number of different delivery options, newer SaaS deliveries seem to be getting pushed more towards [Apigee X](../apigee-x/). Policies for Apigee Edge Gateways are configured with XML and can be accessed via a UI, CLI, and API. Apigee Edge has a few different gateway offerings, including both a microgateway hybrid approach.
Apigee X
The Apigee X platform is a newer release than the [Apigee Edge](../apigee-edge/) platform. It is a SaaS-only delivery with a few different policy options than what's provided by Apigee Edge.

Axway Software is a French-American publicly held information technology company that provides software tools for enterprise software, enterprise application integration, business activity monitoring, business analytics, mobile application development and web API management.
Azure API Management
Azure API Management is a service provided by Microsoft Azure. Its policies are fewer in number than some competitors, and yet it still suits many use cases. Integrations are managed via [Dapr](https://dapr.io/).

Kong is presented as both an open source Gateway and as an enterprise platform named Kong Konnect. The platform consists of an Gateway, a Service Mesh, a Portal, an API client, and more. Kong has gained a strong footing for internal use cases, leading to its integrations with Kubernetes and Envoy.
MuleSoft Anypoint Platform
MuleSoft offers a broad suite of products to deliver integration solutions. The Anypoint platform is often listed in the iPaaS category, and as part of that, it contains Gateway functionality.

Built on the learnings of solutions such as NGINX, HAProxy, hardware load balancers, and cloud load balancers, Envoy runs alongside every application and abstracts the network by providing common features in a platform-agnostic manner.

KrakenD
KrakenD offers two different editions, KrakenD CE (Community Edition) and KrakenD EE (Enteprise Edition). The Gateway engine of KrakenD, an open source project, has joined the Linux Foundation as [Lura](https://github.com/luraproject/lura). KrakenD touts that it's built for performance. This Gateway is often deployed as a backend-for-frontend or a façade aggregator on top of many different microservices. KrakenD is primarily used as a stateless component in user infrastructure. There's no data store dependency required for most operations, which may simplify deployment and management. Message transformation can be configured using the [Martian DSL](https://github.com/google/martian) while message validation can benefit from Google's [Common Expression Language CEL)](https://github.com/google/cel-spec). KrakenD has a JSON-based file configuration with a Web-based editor in KrakenD Designer (CE) or KrakenD Studio (EE). Enterprise features include commercial support, KrakenD studio, and enterprise plugins.

Reactive Interaction Gateway
The REactive Interaction Gatewy is focused on optimizing microservice operations, decoupling the services using some kind of messaging service, like Kafka; now the backend-for-frontends service simply listens to the Kafka stream, where all other services publish their events to. Providing a gateway that subscribes to Kafka topics, while holding connections to all active frontends, forwarding events to the users they're addressed to, all in a scalable way. And on top of that, it also handles authorization, so your services don't have to care about that either.
Solo
Architecturally, API gateways have both a data plane and a control plane. The data plane is where traffic flows from your external clients through the proxies to the backend services. The control plane is where your configuration and policies are defined. These configurations are pushed to the proxies to adjust the flow of traffic or to add security checks like authentication. With adoption of Kubernetes containers and cloud-native architectures for modern applications, technologies like the open source Envoy Proxy and Istio have emerged to enable application networking for distributed systems. Envoy has become the most popular proxy at the edge, and also as the sidecar to handle internal traffic in an Istio service mesh.

WSO2
WSO2 Gateway provides a runtime and a backend component (an API proxy) for API calls.
